Social Investment Taskforce
Mr. Francois:
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) how many candidates were considered for the position of chairman of the Social Investment Taskforce; [109200]
(2) on what date Sir Ronald Cohen was appointed to the Social Investment Taskforce; and what (a) salary and (b) expenses he has been paid since his appointment. [109201]
John Healey:
The Social Investment Taskforce was created in 2000 to review and develop the role of community financing in enterprise creation in disadvantaged areas. Every member of the taskforce including the chairman, appointed in February 2000, was chosen for their expertise in this special field. All were unpaid.
Statistics
Mrs. Villiers:
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much his Department spent on statistics relating to the work of his Department in each of the last five years. [107280]
John Healey:
There is no definition of the term statistics relating to the work of the Department and no centrally held information on either the volume or costs of statistics published each year on this basis.
Estimates for the annual costs of National Statistics are contained in the relevant National Statistics Annual Report and Accounts, which are available on the National Statistics website at: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/StatBase/Product.asp?vlnk=1051. Copies are also available in the Library for the reference of Members.
The last year these were produced was 2004-05.
Stem Cell Research
Mr. Francois:
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer on what date Sir Christopher Evans was appointed to his Departments independent review into stem cell research. [109222]
Mr. Timms:
A letter from Sir John Pattison, chair of the UK Stem Cell Initiative, inviting Sir Christopher Evans to join the advisory panel was sent on 8 April 2005.
Tax Credits
Mr. Francois:
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what the cost is of the increase of the tax credit income disregard from £2,500 to £25,000 in each financial year between 2006-07 and 2010-11 expressed in terms of entitlement. [107521]
Mr. Timms:
The cost of the disregard is not the change in entitlement, but the foregone recovery of overpayments.
I refer the hon. Member to the transcript of the Public Accounts Committee hearing held on 23 October 2006.
