Police: Vehicles

Mr. George Howarth: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many vehicles each police force in England and Wales owns, broken down by (a) category and (b) value. [107664]

Police Finance

Mr. Jeremy Browne: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much per capita funding was given by his Department to Avon and Somerset police for (a) 2005-06 and (b) 2006-07; and what the overall figure was for police forces in England and Wales in each year. [104692]

Mr. McNulty: The information requested is set out in the following table.

We do not distribute grant to police authorities purely on the basis of population. The police funding formula uses a range of socio-demographic data to reflect the relative needs of each authority. Grant allocations also take into account the relative resources of each authority. Grant allocations are stabilised by damping changes to limit year-on-year variations.
