Ofsted

Ofsted data on closures include registered places in settings which are transferring ownership, and in settings which move from one Ofsted category to another, not just in those which are ceasing trading.

Ofsted have produced figures on the numbers of registered child care providers and places on a
20 Feb 2007 : Column 664W
quarterly basis from March 2003. Their latest figures were published in their report “Registered Childcare Providers and Places, December 2006”, which is available on their website: www.Ofsted.gov.uk/

Civil Servants: Termination of Employment

Mr. Hayes: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills which (a) senior personnel and (b) special advisers have left his Department to work in (i) education-related businesses and (ii) lobbying since 1997; and what steps are taken to ensure the relevant period between periods of employment under Cabinet Office guidance is adhered to. [121399]

Mr. Dhanda: Information about the Business Appointment Rules issued by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, are set out in the Civil Service Management Code and included in all contracts of employment, including those of special advisers. The rules are drawn to the attention of staff and all staff leaving the Department are subject to them. A list of all Business Appointment applications considered by Advisory Committee is published in the Committee's annual report, copies of which can be obtained from the Library.

The further information requested could be obtained only at disproportionate cost, and would reveal individual identities.

Class Sizes

Julia Goldsworthy: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what the average class size was for each age group in each local education authority in (a) 2000 and (b) 2001. [118674]

Jim Knight: Information on class size by age group is not collected centrally.

The available information relating to the national curriculum year group of classes is shown in the following table. The figures provided include maintained primary schools only. Equivalent data for maintained secondary schools are only available from 2001 onwards.
