Police: Cumbria

David Maclean: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers there were in Cumbria Constabulary in each year since 1997; and what the projected figures are for 2007 and 2008. [124008]

Mr. McNulty: The available data for 1997 to 2006 are given in the following table.

With regard to future strength it is a matter for the chief constable, in consultation with the police authority, to determine the number of police officers and police support staff employed by the force.
