Mr. Dismore: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received on the treatment of women detainees at Yarls Wood since Serco took over the management contract; and if he will make a statement. [137995]
Mr. Byrne: Since Serco Ltd were awarded the contract to operate Yarls Wood there have been representations from detainees at Yarls Wood concerning rumours about possible changes to procedures and routines at the centre. Detainees were written to by the centre director on 4 and 5 May to address the unwarranted rumours. Representations have been received on the same subject from private individuals and the organisation Black Women Against Rape. My officials have responded with assurances that the rumours concerning possible changes to procedures and routines at Yarls Wood are unfounded.
