Memorandum submitted by Kingsley Dunn (CJ&I 38)

As a committed Christian I find it necessary to make a plea for the continuance of free speech in this land.

I am, frankly, astounded that it should be necessary to make such a plea in what has always been a Christian and free country, this freedom has come about in no small part because of Christian beliefs and principles held by many over the years.

It would be very wrong and, indeed, a backward step if Christian people were prevented from holding their beliefs and prevented from talking about those beliefs.

Christians are not seeking to harm or hate any minority, even if biblical teaching prohibits Christians from embracing such a life style, rather, seeking to maintain the balance. There is no reason why Christians should be denied the right to free speech, countless numbers of people, including Christians, fought and died to protect the freedoms this country holds dear.

The fear is that it is not merely free speech that is to be controlled but also it will not be possible to indulge in free thinking.
