Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary memorandum submitted by England's Regional Development Agencies (BW 30a)

I am writing in response to your letter dated 27 February regarding two additional questions in relation to the EFRA Select Committee Inquiry in to British Waterways. You asked RDAs to provide further information about (a) any official communication between RDAs and the Government about the impact of grant reductions on British Waterways' work, and any concerns expressed by the RDAs about these reductions; and (b) any official communication between the private sector and the Government about the impact of grant reductions on British Waterways' work, and any concerns expressed by the private sector about these reductions.

There has been no official direct communication, either collectively or individually, between RDAs and the Government about the impact of grant reductions on British Waterways' work. We are also not aware of any official communication between the private sector and the Government, although, of course, we would not necessarily expect to be privy to such information.

EEDA on behalf of England's RDAs.
