Make
provision for the establishment of an inquiry into the war on
Iraq; and |
|
|
|
|
Be
it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty,
by and with the advice and |
|
|
consent of the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal, and Commons, in this present |
|
|
Parliament assembled, and
by the authority of the same, as follows:— |
|

1 |
Establishment
of inquiry |
|
|
(1) |
The Secretary of State shall
cause an inquiry to be held under the Inquiries Act |
|
|
2005 (c. 12) in relation
to the participation of the United Kingdom in the war on |
|
|
|
|
(2) |
The inquiry shall be known
as the Iraq War Inquiry. |
|

(3) |
The Secretary of State shall
appoint an inquiry panel of up to 12 members, one |
|
|
of whom shall be appointed
as chairman. |
|
|
(4) |
The
Secretary of State may pay to members of the panel such remuneration
and |
|
|
allowances
as he considers appropriate. |
|
|
|

(1) |
The terms of reference of
the inquiry shall be to conduct an investigation into |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
(2) |
The inquiry panel may make
recommendations on any matter within its terms |
|
|
|
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
|
|
(1) |
A report of the inquiry
shall be published in accordance with section 25 of the |
|
|
Inquiries Act 2005 (publication
of reports), save that subsection (4)(b) shall not |
|
|
|
|
(2) |
A report published under
subsection (1) shall be laid before Parliament no later |
|

than one year after the setting-up
date in respect of the inquiry panel, |
|
|
determined in accordance
with section 5 of that Act. |
|
|
(3) |
A Minister of the Crown
shall, as soon as is practicable after the laying of a |
|
|
report before Parliament
under subsection (2), make a motion in each House of |
|
|
Parliament expressing a view
on the contents of the report. |
|

(4) |
The chairman of the inquiry
panel may deliver interim reports, which the |
|
|
Secretary of State may publish.
|
|
|
|
|
There
shall be paid out of money provided by Parliament any expenditure
incurred by |
|
|
the
Secretary of State by virtue of this Act. |

|
|
This Act may be cited as
the Iraq War Inquiry 2008. |
