Abortion Act 1967 (Repeal)

The Humble Petition of Linda White and other residents of Wellingborough including the Parish of our Lady of Our Sacred Heart, Wellingborough,

That they bear witness to the fortieth anniversary of the passing of the Abortion Act 1967 and appeal to Her Majesty’s government, in its forthcoming review of the act, to seek ways of providing alternative support

for families who choose to abort their unborn babies and to hasten the day when this terrible act is removed from the statute book.

Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House urges the Secretary of State for Health to introduce a bill to repeal the Abortion Act 1967.

Observations from the Secretary of State for Health:

It is accepted Parliamentary practice that proposals for changes in the law on abortion come from backbench members and that decisions are made on the basis of free votes.

The Government believes that the Abortion Act works as Parliament intended.
