Firearms: Crime
Mr. Ruffley:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many (a) gun crimes and (b) arrests relating to gun crime there were (i) in England and (ii) in each police force area in each of the last five years. [165681]
Mr. Coaker:
Available data relate to offences involving firearms (excluding air weapons) from 2001-02 up to and including 2005-06 and are given in the table. Firearms are taken to be involved in a crime if they are fired, used as a blunt instrument or used as a threat.
The arrests collection undertaken by the Office for Criminal Justice Reform provides data only on persons arrested for recorded crime (notifiable offences) by age group, gender, ethnicity, and main offence group, i.e. violence against the person, sexual offences, robbery, burglary etc. More detailed data about specific offences do not form part of this collection.
