Police: Retirement
Mr. Ruffley:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the average retirement age for a police officer was in the most recent period for which figures are available; and what the average age was at which police officers retired on invalidity pensions in each police force area in England and Wales in each year since 1997. Mr. McNulty:
Retirement age cannot be separately identified from the data collected within the police personnel statistics series.
The available data are the age on leaving the service within the following time bands only: 25 and under, 26 to 40, 41 to 55 and over 55.
Mr. Ruffley:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of retirements from each police force in England and Wales have been on medical grounds in each year since 1997. [195702]
Mr. McNulty:
The numbers of police officer medical retirements have been published each year by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) in their annual report. HMIC have advised that these data will no longer be published in their annual report and that the data for 2004-05 would be the last series of data to be published.
The format of the published data was changed from 2001-02, and the available data are given in the following tables.
