Foreign Workers: Domestic Service
Mr. Andrew Smith:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what assessment she has made of the likely impact on the human rights of migrant domestic workers of ending the domestic migrant worker visa; [206108]
(2) what representations she has received on the future of the domestic migrant worker visa; [206109]
(3) when she plans to make an announcement on the future of the domestic migrant worker visa; [206110]
(4) what assessment her Department has made of the protection afforded to workers covered by the terms of the domestic migrant worker visa. [206111]
Mr. Byrne:
We fully understandand have received representations from several organisations and private individuals onthe protections which are valued in the current route for overseas domestic workers in private households. We said in our consultation paper on visitors, published last December, that we are committed to the protection of those who are exploited when they are in the UK. We are currently conducting research and analysis in respect of the current provisions for overseas domestic workers. In light of the research findings we will consider, with interested parties, how best to achieve protection for any person who is found to be a victim of trafficking, irrespective of how they entered the UK.
