Parkinson’s Disease: Hertfordshire

Mike Penning: To ask the Secretary of State for Health which hospitals in Hertfordshire provide (a) Parkinson's disease and (b) paediatric diabetes specialist nurses. [210139]

Ann Keen: This information is not collected centrally.

The annual national heath service work force census does not separately identify the number of Parkinson’s disease and paediatric diabetes specialist nurses from the rest of the nursing work force. Work force planning is a matter for local determination as local NHS

organisations are best placed to assess the health care needs of their local population. The hon. Member may therefore wish to raise this matter locally.

Patients: Attendance

Mr. Byers: To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many hospital appointments were missed in each primary care trust in the last year for which information is available; what the average cost of a missed hospital appointment was in that year; and if he will make a statement. [211092]

13 Jun 2008 : Column 594W

Mr. Bradshaw: The number of missed hospital appointments in each primary care trust for 2007-08 is shown in the table.

The Department has not made an estimate of the cost of such missed appointments. Through the introduction of choice and choose and book, patients can now choose the place, time and date of their hospital appointment which will help to reduce the number of missed appointments in national health service hospitals.
