Injuries: Offensive Weapons

Chris Huhne: To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people were treated for (a) gunshot and (b) knife wounds at hospitals in each strategic health authority in each of the last 10 years, broken down by (i) age, (ii) sex and (iii) ethnicity. [206489]

Mr. Bradshaw: Data are not held in the format requested. This is because of restrictions on the use of such data where the figures are very small. However, the following tables set out data, firstly by strategic health authority (SHA) and then, separately, by age and sex and ethnicity.

Count of finished admissions with a gunshot related injury by SHA for period 1997-98 to 2006-07, national health service hospitals England and activity performed in the independent sector in England commissioned by English NHS
