To ask the Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills how many people aged (a) 16 and 17, (b) 18 and over and (c) in total have enrolled on an apprenticeship in (i) Jarrow constituency, (ii) South Tyneside, (iii) the North East and (iv) nationwide in each year since 1997. [223118]
Mr. Lammy:
Table 1 shows the number of people that have started on an apprenticeship from 1997. Information on individual age volumes is unavailable between 1997-98 and 2001-02. We have, however, provided a national figure for the number of apprenticeship starts over this period.

Table 1 shows the number of people aged 18 or over at the start of their apprenticeship. Framework completion data was not published in the pre-LSC era, so figures are not available for the period between 1997-98 to 2001-02.
