Letter of correction from Paul Goggins:
An error has been identified in the answer given to the hon. Member for Romford on 21 February 2008. The full answer given was as follows:
Paul Goggins: The PSNI has advised that for the period 1970 to 2004 the number of cases of murder which remain open and under investigation is 3,951.
The figures provided previously referred to the number of deaths that were under investigation by the Police Service of Northern Ireland. These included deaths which are currently not classified as murder, but are suspicious or deal with the disappearance, presumed death, of a person.
The correct answer should have been:
