Mr. Bradshaw: The following primary care trust (PCT) tables provide information from hospital episode statistics for South Tyneside, the north-east and England. There is no information provided for Jarrow because data are not collected for that geographical area. Information has been provided according to the age categories requested where possible. However, no age breakdown has been provided for South Tyneside PCT because the numbers involved are below five and need to be suppressed in order to maintain confidentiality.

The code ‘W26’ is used for such diagnoses as accidental knife injuries and should exclude assault and intentional self-harm. The code ‘X99’ includes cases where someone has been attacked using a sharp object of some kind (including but not exclusive to knives). Information has been provided for W26 and X99.

Reference should be made to the footnotes and clinical codes when interpreting the data.
