Memorandum submitted by Friends of the Earth (PB 36)

 

 

Please find enclosed over 1300 expressions of concern from members of the public with regard to the Planning Bill.

 

The impact of the Planning Bill on democracy, a meaningful right to be heard in inquiries and the environment are of huge concern to people.

 

The Planning Bill should ensure that:

· Decision-makers are democratically accountable

· The sustainable development duty is strengthened and applied to the preparation and consideration of all proposals

· A public right to be heard (in person) is guaranteed for all stages of the inquiry process

· A duty is applied to ensure decisions on new infrastructure contribute to reducing carbon emissions
