Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary memorandum submitted by the British Beer Pub Association

Further to my evidence to the Select Committee on Culture Media and Sport on 8 January, as requested, I enclose details of statistics covering the numbers of public houses over the last 30 years.

In line with your questions I have induded statistics that cover the number of managed and tenanted properties from both the brewers and independent pub companies. Further to this I have included information on the number of free houses. Despite industry and Government department's working together, there is a severe lack of long term reliable data before 1997. As such, I have included full information post 1997, and best estimates over the period prior.
