Supplementary memorandum submitted by
the British Beer Pub Association
Further to my evidence to the Select Committee
on Culture Media and Sport on 8 January, as requested, I enclose
details of statistics covering the numbers of public houses over
the last 30 years.
In line with your questions I have induded statistics
that cover the number of managed and tenanted properties from
both the brewers and independent pub companies. Further to this
I have included information on the number of free houses. Despite
industry and Government department's working together, there is
a severe lack of long term reliable data before 1997. As such,
I have included full information post 1997, and best estimates
over the period prior.
