Second Special Report
1. On 23 January 2008, the Committee published its
Fifth Report of Session 2007-08, on On-course Horserace Betting.[1]
Gerry Sutcliffe MP, the Minister with responsibility for sport
at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, responded to the
Report by way of a letter on 1 May 2008. The Committee
had accepted that a delay in responding was justified, because
of the danger of prejudicing sensitive discussions in March and
April between members of the Existing Betting Areas Working Party,
chaired by Sholto Douglas-Home. The Government's response is published
as the Appendix below.
