Memorandum submitted by the Burnhams Overy
& Norton Wildfowlers Association (DMB 18)
1. Regarding the proposed greater access
to the coast which is included in the draft Marine Bill. The area
that is of concern to us is the part of the North Norfolk Coast
between Brancaster and Burnham Overy Staithe which is registered
as Common Land (CL65, 124, 121, 161, 162).
2. We would like to make you aware that
wildfowling is carried out along this part of the Norfolk coast
and has been for a couple of hundred years or so. Members of this
Association who own the wildfowling rights here would be under
threat to alter or suspend their activity that has gone on for
so many years just for a piece of bad legislation. Horses and
gun fire do not mix.
3. We would urge you to not allow greater
access to our Commons for horse riders and cyclists as this would
add pressure to our already fragile coastline and a disturbance
to wildfowl and nature.
4. As this draft Marine Bill stands we feel
it is a threat to coastal wildfowling and this Bill does not do
enough to protect the interests of the Owners of the Rights of
Common especially those that own the wildfowling rights.
