People should petition the House through their
MPs. The current system works well and should be retained. This
new idea risks seriously diminishing the role of individual MPs
and I would need a lot of persuasion even to think of supporting
it in the most lukewarm fashion. What will this add to our democracy
except trivial issues being talked up by internet campaigners
with a mission while diminishing the voice of those who prefer
not to use the technology? This is an idea whose time has not
come and I hope never will!
