Bill

To

introduce a national day to learn about and remember the Armenian

genocide. 

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and

consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present

Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1       

Armenian genocide remembrance day

(1)   

The Secretary of State shall by order specify a date which shall be observed

each year as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

(2)   

The purpose of Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day shall be to provide all

persons opportunities to learn about and reflect on the Armenian genocide

committed by or on behalf of the Ottoman Empire.

2       

Short title and extent

(1)   

This Act may be cited as the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day Act 2009.

(2)   

This Act extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
