provision for the compulsory teaching of British history in schools;

it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty,
by and with the advice and |

consent of the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal, and Commons, in this present |

Parliament assembled, and
by the authority of the same, as follows:— |

National Curriculum for
England |

(1) |
The Education
Act 2002 (c. 32) is amended as follows. |

In this section “British
history” means the history of the shaping of the |

socio-economic
and geopolitical structure of British society and the |
|
|
British
state, taught in such a manner as to give pupils a comprehensive

narrative
of key events which have occurred in, or have affected, the |
|

Short
title and commencement |

(1) |
This Act may be cited as
the Teaching of British History in Schools Act 2009. |

(2) |
This Act comes into force
at the end of the period of 2 months beginning with |
|
|
the day on which it is passed. |
