Sir Patrick Cormack: I do not intend to make a long intervention at this point. The system of freehold is to be abolished, and the hon. Gentleman cannot get away from that.
Sir Stuart Bell: I am happy to accept that point, but, as former Prime Minister Tony Blair used to say, it is time to move on, and it is time for the Church to move on. It is also time for this Committee to move on, Mr. Gale, because a vote is imminent in the Chamber.
I am grateful for the hon. Gentleman’s remarks. They are on the record, and they are well respected and well considered, but I commend both Measures to the Committee.
