To ask the Secretary of State for Health with reference to the answer to the hon. Member for Eddisbury of 6 October 2008, Official Report, column 422W, on hepatitis, how many notifications of hepatitis B have been made to the Health Protection Agency and its predecessor bodies in each year since 1997 (a) for England in total and (b) in each strategic health authority area; and what estimate he has made of the overall prevalence of hepatitis B in each strategic health authority area. Data for notifications of hepatitis B by current and previous strategic health authorities (SHAs) are shown in the following table.
The Health Protection Agency Centre for Infections is not able to produce estimates of the prevalence of hepatitis B at SHA level.
