Mr. Jeremy Browne:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health what the rate of staff (a) absence and (b) sickness absence was in (i) his Department and (ii) each of its agencies and non-departmental public
bodies in each year since 1997; what the target rates set for his Department are in each case; and if he will make a statement. [238929]

Letter of correction from Mr. Bradshaw:
An error has been identified in the written answer given to the hon. Member for Taunton (Mr. Browne) on 26 November 2008. I am sorry that the figure for average working days lost in PASA in 2005 was incorrect. The answer said that this figure was 15.5 and the correct figure is 5.5. The correct answer is as follows:
Mr. Bradshaw: Information on average working days lost (AWDL) per member of staff due to sickness absence in the Department of Health and its agencies is presented in the following table:
Coverage | AWDL | |
The change in the figures from calendar years to financial year between 2005 and 2006-07 reflects a change in the annual period covered by the reports. The change between 2004 and 2005 from the Department and its agencies together to the Department and its agencies separately reflects a change in the level of aggregation of information in reporting.
The Department does not report on the rates of other types of absence or set formal targets for rates of absence.
Mr. Laws: To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families how many and what proportion of 16 to 18 year olds have received education maintenance allowance in each year since 2001; and if he will make a statement. [233164]

Letter of correction from Jim Knight:
An error has been identified in the written answer to the hon. Member for Yeovil (Mr. Laws) on 10 November 2008. I am writing to clarify information given in the written response.
A caveat was given in table 1 stating:
Learners who participate in more full-time education and E2E/Programme Led Apprenticeships will appear twice in these figures and may have transferred from one scheme to another during the year.
The correct caveat is given with the table as follows:
Table 1: Learners in receipt of EMA in England since 2001 | |
Number | |
(1) Young people who have claimed EMA whilst on an E2E programme and then progressed in the same year to a school sixth form or a college course and were still eligible for EMA after income assessment will be counted twice in the yearly figures. |
A copy of the final PQ will be place in the House Library.
