Andrew Rosindell: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many inhabitants of St Helena have taken up residence in the United Kingdom in the last five years. [240849]
[Official Report, 17 December 2008, Vol. 485, c. 879W.]
Letter of correction from Gillian Merron:
It has been brought to my attention that the written answer I gave to the hon. Member for Romford (Andrew Rosindell) on 17 December 2008 was incorrect. The full answer given was as follows:
Gillian Merron: My right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary has not had any meetings with officials from St. Helena in the last two years. However, I had a constructive meeting with Councillor William Drabble during the Overseas Territories Consultative Council in October this year, and my hon. Friend, Meg Munn, then Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, met with Brian Isaacs at the same event in December 2007. Foreign and Commonwealth Office and other Government officials are in regular contact with St. Helena officials.
The correct answer should have read:
Gillian Merron: The British Overseas Territories Act 2002 conferred British citizenship on British Overseas Territories citizens with the exception of those who are a British overseas territories citizen by virtue only of a connection with the Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus.
British citizens are free from immigration control in the UK. As such, the Government do not keep records of the movements of these citizens to and from the UK.
Hugh Robertson: To ask the Minister for the Olympics what alternative sources of funding for the athletes village (a) she and (b) the Olympic Delivery Authority is considering; and if she will make a statement. [246120]
[Official Report, 12 January 2009, Vol. 486, c. 260W.]
Letter of correction from Tessa Jowell:
It has been brought to our attention that, because the response to PQ 246120 was written in 2008, but published in 2009, the answer is misleading. A correction to the answer of 12 January 2009, Official Report, column 260W, is required. The full answer given to the question and the required change are as follows:
Hugh Robertson: To ask the Minister for the Olympics what alternative sources of funding for the athletes' village (a) she and (b) the Olympic Delivery Authority is considering; and if she will make a statement. [246120]
Tessa Jowell: As a consequence of recent turmoil in the global financial markets, less private sector investment is available than originally envisaged, meaning that the Olympic Village deal needs to be restructured and additional public sector investment will need to be made. The details of that restructured deal are being worked through between the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and Lend Lease under the terms of an exclusivity agreement and it would not be appropriate to reveal the details until that deal is concluded in the spring of 2009. Under the exclusivity agreement, the ODA may not negotiate with alternative development partners.
