Andrew Selous: To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families what restrictions there are upon teachers serving as councillors on local authorities which are local education authorities; and if he will make a statement. [266169]
Jim Knight: Teachers are not permitted to serve as councillors of the local authorities in which they are employed. Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972 states that a person shall be disqualified from being a member of a local authority if employed by (or holds a post confirmed by) the local authority or any of the committees of the local authority.

To ask the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families what percentage of teachers recruited to maintained (a) infant, (b)
primary and (c) secondary schools were the subject of a completed Criminal Records Bureau check before starting work in each year since 2002. [265041]
