DNA: Databases

Jenny Willott: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people from each police force area had their DNA samples and personal information removed from the National DNA Database in each of the last (a) five years and (b) 12 months; and if she will make a statement. [269508]

Mr. Alan Campbell: Table 1 shows the number of subject profiles removed from the National DNA Database for all reasons (including removals under the Exceptional Case Procedure, i.e. following a request to the chief officer of the responsible force from the person concerned) between April 2004 and December 2007.

Table 2 shows the number of subject profiles removed from the National DNA Database under the Exceptional Case Procedure only, for each month between January 2008 and March 2009, and for the year one April 2008 to 31 March 2009.

As the figures before January 2008 show all removals, and figures after that date show removals under the Exceptional Case Procedure only, the figures for April to December 2007 and those for January to March 2008 cannot be added to produce a figure for the year 2007-08.

The tables cover subject profiles from English and Welsh forces only.
