Mr. Stephen O'Brien: To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will estimate his Department's expenditure on its toolkit for the National Programme for IT; and whether capital for this expenditure will be allocated from the original budget for the programme.
Mr. Bradshaw: It is not yet possible to make a meaningful estimate of all the costs involved. However, we anticipate that they will be met from within existing budgetary provision for the national programme.
Mr. Stephen O'Brien:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) how many sites in the Southern cluster of the National Programme for IT are (a) due to deploy
and (b) in the process of deploying (i) the RiO information system and (ii) Cerner Millennium under the management of BT;
Mr. Bradshaw: In the southern programme for information technology, previously the southern cluster, the eight acute trusts that had previously installed Cerner Millennium under Fujitsu as local service provider are transferring to BT. In addition, four more acute trusts are planning to deploy the system, three of which are in the early stages of deployment. In all, these deployments will cover 26 sites.
Mr. Oaten: To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether provision of the regional distribution centre to provide a loan equipment delivery service for complex equipment as part of the transforming community equipment programme will be subject to a competitive tender should the centre be established.
Phil Hope: Local authorities and their health partners who may consider commissioning a regional solution for complex equipment are required to comply with all relevant European Union procurement legislation.
