4 Ways and Means: Provisional Collection of Taxes

Motion made and Question put forthwith (Standing Order No. 51(2)), That, pursuant to section 5 of the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act 1968, provisional statutory effect shall be given to the following motions:_

(a) Rates of duty on alcoholic liquor (Motion No. 9);

(b) Rates of tobacco products duty (Motion No. 10);

(c) Fuel duties (rates and rebates from Spring 2009) (Motion No. 13);

(d) Amusement machine licences (amounts of duty) (Motion No. 18); and

5 Ways and Means: Amendment of the Law

Motion made and Question proposed, That,_

(1) It is expedient to amend the law with respect to the National Debt and the public revenue and to make further provision in connection with finance.

(2) This Resolution does not extend to the making of any amendment with respect to value added tax so as to provide_

(a) for zero-rating or exempting a supply, acquisition or importation;

(b) for refunding an amount of tax;

(c) for any relief, other than a relief that_

(i) so far as it is applicable to goods, applies to goods of every description, and

(ii) so far as it is applicable to services, applies to services of every description._(Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer.)

6 Statutory Instruments: Motions for Approval

7 The European Union and the Arctic Region

Motion made and Question put forthwith (Standing Order No. 119(11)), That this House takes note of European Union Document No. COM(08) 763, Commission Communication on the EU and the Arctic Region; welcomes the Commission's Communication as the first step towards an EU Arctic policy; and encourages the Government's active engagement in further discussions to ensure that UK interests are reflected in the EU policy._(Helen Goodman.)

8 Welsh Grand Committee

Ordered, That_

(1) the matter of the Budget Statement and its implications for Wales be referred to the Welsh Grand Committee for its consideration; and

(2) the Committee shall meet at Westminster on Wednesday 6 May at 9.25 am and between 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm to consider the matter referred to it under paragraph (1) above._(Helen Goodman.)

9 Public Petition

A Public Petition from supporters of members of the Tamil Diaspora in the United Kingdom relating to Sri Lanka was presented and read by Mr Parmjit Dhanda.
