Post offices - securing their future - Business and Enterprise Committee Contents

Memorandum submitted by the FCO

Thank you for your letter of 4 March, regarding the use by the FCO of the Post Office Network.

The FCO uses the Post Office to disseminate our travel safety messages. We call this our "Know Before You Go" campaign. We work with the Post Office to host our travel checklist and advice on their website, and details of the scheme within their travel insurance brochure.

We have also developed a commercial partnership with the Australian postal service, Australia Post. From this summer, British residents will be able to take their passport applications to any one of more than 2,000 Australia Post offices across the country for a service similar to "check-and-send" offered by the Post Office in the UK.
