IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE A LEVEL RESULTS 1989-2007

1.  TOTAL NUMBERS OFFERING MATHS AND SCIENCES


  Note total Maths numbers are still below total for 1998 and well below 1989. Since 2000 the total A level entries have risen by 2.8%. Biology entries dropped y 0.4%, Chemistry by 1.4% and Physics by 14.3%.

2.  TOP GRADES AWARDED


  Total number A grade students increase each year: The year Maths by another 8%, Biology by 6.6%, Chemistry by 4% and Physics by 5%.

Long term changes in A grades

    Biology: 12% to 26%; Chemistry 14.7% to 32%; Physics 13% to 31%.

    Maths: A grades rise from 17.3% in 1989 to 44% in 2007!

    (43.8% Maths, 56.8% Further Maths in 2007)

    11.6% of Maths scripts are Further Maths in 2007.

  Since 1989 the number obtaining A grade Maths has increased by a factor of 2.15, Biology by 2.8, Chemistry by 1.8 and Physics by 1.4.
