8 CONCLUSION
126. Broadly speaking the Licensing Act has in our
view been a success. Evidence that we have received has shown
that the Act has simplified the licensing system bringing together
a number of different regimes into one licence. There is also
a greater diversity of premises on the high street and the Act's
emphasis on partnership working is welcome. However we believe
that our inquiry has shown the benefit of post-legislative scrutiny.
There are a number of important respects in which changes and
improvements need to be made—in terms of the act itself,
its accompanying guidance and its practical application. We hope
that the Government will act on our recommendations.
