Memorandum submitted by Rt
Hon Tessa Jowell MP (Dulwich & West
I would be grateful, when evidence is being considered and the report being written on the Committee's review of the Licensing Act 2003, that my view might be taken into account.
My comment is made in my role as a local Member of Parliament on a single aspect of the current arrangements.
It has become clear to me, through experience in my own constituency, that the regulations relating to lap-dancing clubs should be clarified and tightened. Although an application was resisted successfully in my constituency, this has not always been the case elsewhere. Communities should be able to successfully oppose such establishments in locations that are inappropriate. In my view some adjustment is required to empower them to do this.
I would be grateful if you could bring my view to the attention of the Chair and Members of the Committee.
