Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation: No hope without forests - Environmental Audit Committee Contents

6  Conclusion

89. Failure to halt deforestation will raise greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere above safe levels, even if industrial emissions are reduced to zero. Failure to end deforestation quickly could double the cost of avoiding dangerous climate change to 2030. The economic, environmental and development case for ending deforestation is overwhelming. Success is only possible if the international community works together effectively.[129] In the long-term, the focus must be wider than just deforestation. Globally a more sustainable way to use land that encompasses agriculture, forestry, development, biodiversity and climate change is essential.
