E-mail to the Committee Specialist from
the British Council
SITUATION IN GAZATHURSDAY 8 JANUARY
2009
Currently all British Council staff and their
families have been accounted for. The Gaza office and the contact
point in Khan Younis remain closed until further notice and our
offices in East Jerusalem, Ramallah, Hebron and Nablis remaim
open. However, all activity is currently being reviewed on a case
by case basis.
The humanitarian impact is affecting all in
Gaza, including our own staff and families. It remains difficult
for staff to obtain supplies, there is little electricity and
they are under the stress of ongoing air strikes in Gaza city
and now of a ground invasion.
Brendan McSharry, the British Council Director
and other colleagues are in close daily contact with the team
and providing any support they can during this time.
