Letter to the Chairman of the Committee
from the Permanent Under-Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth
Office
In October last year I wrote to you about the
Ambassador's Residence in Dublin and explained that we were pressing
ahead with the sale of Marlay Grange.
Since then our agents have marketed the property
and I am pleased to confirm that we completed the sale of Marlay
Grange on 16 May. The property was sold for 8.25 million,
equivalent to £6.47 million using the FCO's monthly exchange
rate. As the committee will be aware from my quarterly management
letters, transaction costs average 6-8% of the sale value.
The Ambassador continues to live in Glencairn
by mutual agreement with the purchaser.
I am writing to the Chairman of the Public Accounts
Committee along similar lines.
