Foreign and Commonwealth Office Annual Report 2007-08 - Foreign Affairs Committee Contents

Letter to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Foreign and Commonwealth Office from the Chairman of the Committee

ALLEGATIONS OF ABUSE BY KBR MANAGERS IN BRITISH EMBASSY, BAGHDAD

  Thank you for your letter of 19 May in which you responded to concerns raised by Mr Samer Muscati about investigation of abuse allegations at the British Embassy in Baghdad. The Committee has asked me to write to you again on this matter.

  The Committee forwarded your correspondence to Mr Muscati, who has raised a number of further issues in the attached letter of 11 June.[16] I would be most grateful for your response to the points made by Mr Muscati. It would be particularly helpful for the Committee to have your understanding of:

    —  why the suspended members of the KBR management team were permitted to continue having access to KBR local staff;

    —  why the three complainants and Mr Muscati were not interviewed by the KBR investigatory team; and

    —  what the grounds were for dismissal of Nasser and Hassan, two of the principal complainants.

  I look forward to receiving your response.
