Foreign and Commonwealth Office Annual Report 2007-08 - Foreign Affairs Committee Contents

Letter to the Director of International Education Connect Limited from the Chief Executive of the British Council

Thank you for your letter of 4 August.[19]

As I stated in my note of June 03, the NAG report does not suggest that the British Council competes unfairly but does recommend that the British Council finds ways to demonstrate more clearly to competitors and stakeholders that we do not compete unfairly. This is a recommendation we welcome and we are now looking at ways of providing this additional assurance. We will set out the mechanism for doing so more clearly in our annual report and online over the coming year.

In terms of your specific complaint, it appears that we have reached an impasse. As you know, I consider the original investigation of your complaint thorough and comprehensive. However, as previously offered, I would look at it again if you can set out the legal basis of your allegations. Without that, I do not see how the British Council can usefully pursue your complaint any further.
