Letter to BBC World Service from the Committee
Specialist
The World Service's Annual Report states that
its financial position moved from an operating surplus of £11.4
million in 2007 to an operating deficit of £0.2 million in
2008 (p31). However, during the Committee's oral evidence session
with the British Council on 15 October, Richard Thomas stated
that the Service's operating deficit was £2.8 million. (Q133)
The Committee would be grateful if the World
Service could clarify the reason for this difference by 15 December
2008.
