E-mail from Mr Paul Price, Commonwealth
War Graves Commission
Thanks for your request for further information.
I have been unable to visit the cemeteries at Gaza and Deir el
Balah since my arrival in Israel in January 2008. I follow advice
and instructions from the Defence Section at the British Embassy
in Tel Aviv, where I attend weekly meetings and I am advised of
any possible visits by myself or other persons. The last occasion
when any member of staff of the CWGC gained entry to Gaza was
in February 2007 when our Director General, Richard Kellaway,
visited accompanied by my predecessor Andy Fretwell and Defence
Section from the British Embassy.
However, during the period since then, the DA, Mark
Rollo Walker and members of the Defence Section have visited the
cemeteries on numerous occasions, meeting our members of staff
(seven staff in total) and generally helping in any way possible
to complement my only form of communication and supervision with
our staff which is by telephone and Email.
I hope this helps with your enquiry and if you
require any further information please advise me.
