Examination of Witnesses (Questions 240-241)

RT HON. DAVID MILIBAND MP AND MATTHEW RYCROFT CMG

17 JUNE 2009

Q240 Chairman: But there is a reduction in our commitment to Kosovo and Bosnia.

David Miliband: Because of the rise in our compulsory contributions. We've got rising compulsory contributions so we've got less money to spend on discretionary.

Q241 Chairman: Well, I hope that you are able, in your discussions with your colleagues in Government, to get some more support for these vital missions.

David Miliband: I very much appreciate your strong support for this. It's not the easiest time to be arguing for this.

Chairman: I understand that, but if things go badly wrong in Bosnia, it will cost our country and a lot of others a lot more.

I thank you and Mr. Rycroft very much for coming. We are grateful for the fact that we've had so much of your time this week. We always enjoy your visits and we hope you'll come again soon.

David Miliband: I look forward to many more. Thank you very much.
