GSME 14: Letter to the Committee from J. D. Metcalf: Report on Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories

I have read your press release rather than the whole report on the internet.

You may well have covered the following points in your discussions but I hoped to see them mentioned:

· The sense that the wider British public have sympathy with the ordinary people of Gaza and indeed made donations to appeals just after the recent attacks on Gaza.

The government should be making it clear to Israel, and let the British public know that they are making it clear to Israel, that donations have been collected for the people of Gaza and those donations of aid must be allowed to get through to Gaza.

· Jerusalem is the centre of the Holyland for millions of British people and I hope that the British Government keeps in mind and makes it clear to both Israel and Palestine's politicians that we support their aspirations whilst at the same time expecting all sides to respect our Holyland (in my case the Christian heritage). Whilst Israel and Palestine fight over wider Jerusalem, I fear the Christian sites and indeed the Christian population there will be obliterated in the process.
