MISC 59: Letter to the Parliamentary Relations Team, Foreign and Commonwealth Office from the Second Clerk of the Committee
Crown Dependencies
The Foreign Affairs Committee has asked me to write to you regarding HMG's responsibilities for the Crown Dependencies.
The Committee is aware that the Crown Dependencies are self-governing and that the UK is constitutionally responsible only for their defence and international representation. The Committee also understands that the Ministry of Justice has responsibility for providing the main channel of communication between the UK Government and the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man. However, the Committee is interested to know if the Foreign and Commonwealth Office considers itself to have any responsibilities in relation to the Crown Dependencies and, if so, what these might be.
I would be most grateful to have your response by Wednesday 23 April.
