OT 373: E-mail from Sheila Zaja: Turks and Caicos Islands

I would imagine that you have moved on to far more important issues by now, and the problems of the TCI are long gone, but I don't know who else to contact.

I have just returned from Provo and was asked by one of the leading advocates to say to anyone I could that the delay in the publication of the Final Report on the Commission is having a disastrous effect on the attitude of both islanders and businesses towards the British Government.

It is giving space for supporters of the Misick Government to attack Whitehall as being high-handed, and gives them time to influence immature voters against the suspension of the Constitution.

When talking to people across various cultural and political groups I found that while there is relief that Britain finally did something about the rampant corruption, they now need to act fast and effectively to put a plan in place so that everyone knows where the islands are going. The Americans in particular (and these are the bona fide investors) are nervy.

Thank you for helping us previously and for getting the Commission in place, I can hold my head up high out there now.
