OT 317: E-mail from Anna W Summers, Bermuda
Hopefully hundreds of concerned Bermuda citizens will be emailing you regarding the
highly suspect actions of the Bermuda Government over the past several
years. As a very concerned Bermudian I
have recently signed an online petition on this subject and now wish to express
the sincere hope that the United Kingdom Government will step in and set up an
Overseas Territory Commission of Enquiry - similar to the one recently
conducted in Turks and Caicos.
I sincerely believe the misdeeds committed
here in Bermuda will overshadow the goings on
in T&C. The public purse is being
plundered and the government continues to spend money like drunken
sailors. Our international debt limit
has been increased to an alarming level and literally hundreds of millions of
dollars in government spending are unaccounted for. Freedom of the press and of
speech is being eroded on a daily basis.
Our Auditor General has been a hard working
and faithful watchdog and has been repaid by being reviled and attacked by our
Premier who has been pressing our Governor to ask for his, the Auditor
General's resignation.
Thankfully the Governor has rejected the
Premier's request but unfortunately Mr. Denis will retire in August and it is
imperative that an impartial professional replace him in this very critical
position. Our government. will no doubt endeavour to install one of their
cronies to this position and then God help us all.
I respectfully request that the relevant United Kingdom officials take note of the
current situation prevailing in Bermuda. A perusal of The Royal Gazette for the past
few days will shed further enlightenment. The site is www.theroyalgazette.com.
