OT 337: Letter from Gillian Merron MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office

I thought you and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee would be interested to know that I will be visiting the British Virgin Islands shortly to familiarise myself with the key issues in the British Virgin Islands.

Issues that I hope to discuss during my visit include:

· the importance to the UK Government of good governance in the Overseas Territories;

· the value of a well-run and supported public service;

· the British Virgin Islands Government's strategy to maintain a prosperous, safe and secure Territory;

· the British Virgin Islands Government's plans to extend the International Labour Organisation Convention 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour.

If it would be helpful, I will be happy to update you after the visit. If there are any matters you would like to raise with me before I go, please contact my office.
