Bill

To

extend the criteria under which music and sports video works and

documentaries lose their exemption from classification. 

Be it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and

consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present

Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Exemptions from classification

(1)   

In Section 2 of the Video Recordings Act 1984 amend subsection (2) as follows.

(2)   

In paragraph (b), for “mutilation or torture of, or other acts of gross” there is

substituted “graphic”.

(3)   

In paragraph (c) after “organs,” there is inserted “or anus,”.

(4)   

After paragraph (c), there is inserted “(ca) breasts or buttocks in a sexualised or

violent context”.

(5)   

After paragraph (d) there is inserted—

“(e)   

dangerous behaviour;

(f)   

racist, homophobic or other discriminatory language;”

(6)   

For “falling within paragraph (b)”, substitute “falling within paragraphs (b),

(d), (e) or (f)”.

Short title and commencement

(1)   

This Act may be cited as the Video Recordings (Exemption from Classification)

Act 2010.

(2)   

This Act shall come into force on the day following the day on which it is

passed.
